Comprehensive Evaluations for Dyslexia & Other Learning Differences
In 2020, the Dyslexia Center of Austin launched an Evaluation Program to help students and families find answers by providing comprehensive, reduced-cost psycho-educational evaluations for dyslexia and other learning differences. We help families answer the question, “Why is my bright child struggling to read, spell, and write?”
What is a psycho-educational evaluation?
A psycho-educational evaluation identifies areas of strength and weakness in a student’s learning profile and provides a deeper understanding of their educational abilities. This type of evaluation can determine the presence of specific learning disabilities that may contribute to a challenging educational experience.
DATA IS POWER
If your child struggles academically, a psycho-educational evaluation can provide the answers you need to plan for your child’s academic journey. The process involves gathering information from various sources and formal testing methods. The information collected is used to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses and make an accurate diagnosis if appropriate. The formal report will include recommendations and strategies to help your child overcome challenges and achieve goals, as well as any testing and/or classroom accommodations that should be considered to help your child maximize their potential.
Dyslexia Center of Austin’s psycho-educational evaluations meet the criteria for:
Application to the College Board for accommodations on testing such as the ACT and SAT
Universities and colleges needing documentation for the provision of an accommodation plan.

What to expect
During the initial phone call, there will be a brief discussion about your child and any concerns you have to ensure that a psycho-educational evaluation is the right path for you and will address your needs.
If our evaluation services are the right fit, you will receive an initial packet of documents to read over and sign.
Once the initial documents are filled out and signed, you will receive an invoice for a 50% non-refundable deposit.
After payment is received, you will be contacted to schedule a date for the testing session.
The testing session will occur, typically lasting about 5-6 hours. For children in 1st grade or younger, the evaluation will be scheduled over two days.
Please allow four weeks for the Educational Diagnostician to complete the evaluation.
Once the evaluation is completed, you will receive an invoice for the remaining balance.
After the final payment is received, the Educational Diagnostician will schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss the evaluation results and answer any questions you may have.
A finalized electronic copy of the report will be sent only to you for your records.
Depending on the evaluation results, you may want to share them with the appropriate professionals at any academic institution being attended to decide if an accommodation plan is needed.
